Paying our respects on the remaining section of Runway #2 whilst Mr Martyn Arnold lays a wreath on behalf of the Glider Pilot Regiment and his fathers (Sgt William Garbutt) first pilot Sydney Frederick 'Tim' Matthews - the wreath position was especially aligned with the runway centre-line, being built from hay bales made from grass cut from the meadow that now grows where the runway once was, resting on a piece of pierced steel planking of the type used on the runway aprons, resting in turn on the original runway surface - I wept as I read out the names of the aircrews who never returned - I made no apology for that - none was necessary
