DH Tiger Moth G-AOEI (N6946)
SOURCE - Information, photo and aircraft flight log kindly sent from Mr Andrew Wood
Tiger Moth G-AOEI, now operated by the Cambridge Flying Group at Cambridge, flew to Blakehill Farm from Netheravon on 25 April 1944. Her pilot that day was F/Lt Sproule.
We are hopeful that her pilot of the day, F/Lt Sproule was the same Flt/Lt John 'Jack' Alexander Sproule who went on to become commander of No.437 RCAF Squadron. Research is ongoing, but if this is the case
then we have found the aircraft which delivered 'Jack' to the air station from which
he earned his DFC during the attack on Arnhem.
In this quite remarkable photograph taken on the 6th September 2015 during an event at Cambridge airport to mark the 75th anniversary of the aircraft's service with 81 Squadron in France during 1939/40, the BBMF's own Dakota ZA947 "Kwicherbichen" (a replica of Dakota FZ692 which flew from Blakehill Farm) can be seen overflying G-AOEI whilst it waits with engine running to taxi out for a display.
